1. It is just a proposal made by chairman of Nigerian governor’s forum. Before you start to reject or demand for a better job; he suggested three institutions, namely; Npower, corps members and other institution which may be peace corps or its likes. Npower is not yet picked. So, we still need to pray for npower to be considered. But from all indications, npower is most suitable for the job, as they are permanently in their communities while corps members come and go after a year service.
2. If npower is considered, not everybody will be taken, some people will still continue to provide service in their PPA as they earn their stipends. Besides, not everyone is fit for the job. So, recruitment and screening procedures will still be applied.
3. What is community police (CP) and what is expected of community police officer?
Community Policing is generally defined as a law enforcement philosophy that allows officers to continuously operate in the same area in order to create a stronger bond with the citizens living and working in that area. This allows public safety officers to engage with local residents and prevent crime from happening instead of responding to incidents after they occur. From this definition, CP officer may not be carrying guns or weapons like traditional police. Their job is to prevent crime not to respond to it. So, don’t be afraid that you be called when there is robbery incident in your area.
The central goal of community policing is for the police to build relationships with the community through interactions with local agencies and members of the public, creating partnerships and strategies for reducing crime and disorder.
